Forever Evil event review

Forever Evil FINALLY ends today. What do I think of the conclusion of this event ? Hit the jump to find out my review of the first DC Comics universe wide event !! Beware Mild Spoiler.

For this event, I decided  to cover the two conclusion tie-ins of this event; Justice League and Justice League of America as well. I was really excited when the event started because for the first time, DC gives their villains spotlight more that usual. However, the final issue was delayed for two months and in my opinion that slow down its pace a little bit. So what do I think of the conclusion of this event as well as the event overall ?

FOREVER EVIL #7
Forever Evil looks like all Geoff Johns conclusion event issue. It fulls of action, in fact it is all action from pages to pages. However. he did manages to put twist throughout the issue. One of the reason it was delayed is that it need more times for the art. However, David Finch's art did not look any different of the previous issues, so I am kind of disappointed with that.

The final battle between Alexander Luthor and Lex Luthor was very interesting in the sense that it does look like Brain vs Brawn but it does feel too short. At that same time, so many things happen that you feel like it is too rush (similar to Trinity War conclusion). One more things that strikes a liitle bit odd to me is the inconsistency of Lex Luthor. He let Ultraman lives but squashes Atomica in the next panel which is very odd.

While there is a lot of weakness, it still a very good read and a satisfying end for the event. Also, I love that it is a close ended event. It does have a set up for next events, hints for more things to come but it does not directly lead to another event. For that, kudos to DC Comics for doing that.

Overall, I give this issue and the overall a 3.5 out of 5. While it is a good issue and event overall, it lost its momentum when it was delayed and I do think it got overshadowed with Future Ends that already kicked off. Also, I do wish Geoff Johns take his time to conclude the event as much as take it times to build it up.

Justice League #30
Justice League #30 kicked sort of directly after Forever Evil #7. From the cover, we knew that the Justice League has a little bit change in its rooster. While it does show that for a few first pages, it is then moves back to few days later to focus the events lead up to that. The art is very inconsistent at best when you have to distinct art style in your book and one of it is Ivan Reis. Story wise, it is good as it gives a very good set up on the new power ring and a revelation that certainly will give a very interesting relationship between I should say Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor. On the side note, it is not really odd to recruit Captain Cold but it is when he for no reason recruits Shazam when he never work with him before.

Overall, I give this book 4.0 out of 5. It is a very good aftermath issue for Forever Evil but most of the pages doesn't even make sense for now. I hope it does by the next upcoming issue.

Justice League of America #14
JLA 14 is much much more odd issue. First of all, Matt Kindt (the writer) screwed up in his supposedly awesome splash page when none of of the thing drawn in the splash pages make sense. The story then continuously does not make any sense with the interrogation between Stargirl and Steve Trevor. While it does tell what happen to the other member of the JLA, the way it is told is again very weird. Eddy Barrows' art is great as usually though the inker is inconsistent throughout the pages and very obvious. While the ending sort of lead to Justice League United (JLU), again it got overshadowed with JLU but it does it job as the good conclusion for JLA.

Overall, I give this issue 3.0 out of 5. It does it job as the conclusion for JLA, but it is a very odd way to tell the story and the splash pages really really piss me off.
