D23 2017 Recap
Throughout the 3 days event, many news and announcement was revealed, but only few actually really caught everybody announcement. So, what I'll be doing is to recap some of the biggest news came out from the expo. Fair warning, spoiler ahead from some of these news.
The Incredibles 2
The much anticipated released Pixar sequel finally had its first look. Brad Bird returns as director, and the story is set to pick up immediately after the first one ended. The Incredibles 2 is set to release June next year in US.
Disney had few big announcement including the first look of Big Hero 6 the series, and rumors on Hugh Jackman taking the role of Scar for the upcoming Lion King live action remake. The biggest one in my opinion is definitely the announcement of the cast for another of their upcoming live action remake; Aladdin.
Mena Massoud will take the role of Aladdin, while Naomi Scott; fresh from Power Rangers will take the role of Jasmine. It has also been confirmed that Will Smith will take the role of the Genie previously brought to life by the great late Robbie William.
Star Wars Episode 8
With Lucasfilm fully backed off from SDCC this upcoming weekend, we are hoping to get some look on the problematic Han Solo movie. Unfortunately we didn't get any of it, but we do get some new look for the upcoming Episode 8. We got some character posters featuring most of the main characters (excluding Snoke, Maz Kanata, and Captain Phasma) and a brand new sizzle reel.
Marvel didn't brought any of the TV stuff to D23 because they are keeping it for SDCC. Despite that, they definitely did not disappoint on their announcement. The first one, was the revealed of their new logo for the upcoming 10th anniversary.
The second one was the first look of Thanos' Black Order. The Black Order first introduced in Hickman's mega event; Infinity. They consist of his henchman doing his order bringing chaos throughout galaxy. In the movie, their origin has been revised to be his adopted children similar to Gamora and Nebula. However, they will be fully be created through motion capture.
The last one was the very first look of Avengers 3. The footage however was not released online, possibly to be kept for the upcoming SDCC. Based on the description we do get wall to wall action and featured some of the first look of a bearded Captain America as well as a now blond Black Widow. We also being told that we finally see Peter Parker's Spider-sense. The director, Joe Russo has teased we will be seeing the footage very soon.
And that's about it for this year D23. I'll be doing the same recap for SDCC next week and it will be bigger considering Warner Bros is bringing all their TV and movie stuff as well. Stay tuned later this week for a very first look of The Promise with its Malay version's prologue; Amarah Cinta.
